Online and Blended Learning
Online & Blended Learning
The Virtual Campus with the Western Quebec School Board provides online learning to English schools and school boards which allows for equity of offerings across the province no matter the size, staffing, or geographical location of the school. The Virtual Campus is supported by LEARN, to provide Quebec's English secondary schools with the same high-quality online courses.
Needs assessment survey is sent to schools in the spring.
Access to engaging online resources 24/7 through a secure learning portal allows students to meet in a full-featured web-based virtual classroom. With modelling in how to build a 21st-century digital footprint, students are encouraged to communicate regularly, inside and outside class time, with their teachers, develop skills related to the use of technology, and to participate in learning and reflection opportunities using social media.
Every spring, all public English secondary schools and boards are surveyed to determine online learning needs for the coming school year. The survey is sent to school boards and secondary schools via email. All requests for online learning support MUST come from the school or school board.

Online Learning Options
Real-Time | Self-Paced |
The Real-Time blended model, offered since 1999, features live online instruction during the school day, within weekly schedules that are established in collaboration with schools. In Real-Time classes, students interact with their teacher and each other using multi-way audio and video, an interactive whiteboard, chat, collaborative group spaces and more! | Self-Paced courses were introduced in the 2017-2018 school year to offer an additional learning delivery option and to address school situations where scheduling may be problematic. Students access their online course of study through a secure learning portal, which allows them to move through the curriculum independently, with guided pacing, and the support of a teacher who monitors and regularly communicates with them. |
Students participate in live online instruction scheduled during the school day. The daily online class schedule is established in collaboration with schools. 6 credit course - 5 weekly classes 4 credit course - 4 weekly classes 2 credit course - 2 weekly classes | Time for Self-Paced courses must be built into the participating student’s timetable. Students should have sufficient time for online class work, allowing for the flexibility of any school schedule. Students, with the help of school facilitators, will arrange for regular appointments with teachers during the school day. |
Students in live Real-Time classes have the advantage of getting to know peers from other areas of Quebec who share their passion for learning. | IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind, Self-Paced courses work best with students who have auto-regulatory skills and are highly motivated. |
